Circular Quay officially opened 65 years ago on 20 January 1956 by the State Premier JJ Cahill and stands today as the gateway to Sydney. The building was designed in the ‘functionalist’ style. Decorative details such as the bronze grilles depict sea horses and jumping fish which continue to provide a connection with Sydney Harbour.
