Roads

• Upgraded the Princes Highway to improve safety and reduce travel times, improve access for pedestrians and cyclists, and increase the load capacity so heavy trucks can bypass local roads.
• Narellan Road between Camden Valley Way, Narellan and Blaxland Road, Campbelltown has recently been upgraded to reduce congestion and improve safety and travel times. This upgrade has boosted capacity for future traffic growth and improved access to the expanding population and employment areas in Sydney’s south west.
• The first stage of the upgrade between Old Northern Road, Narellan and Peter Brock Drive, Oran Park opened to traffic in April 2018. This 3.3km section of The Northern Road has improved access to Sydney’s South West and improved safety and travel times for all road users.

Public transport

• Sydney’s South West has already experienced record growth in recent years and we know that train trips to and from this area are set to grow further. In November 17, we made it easier and faster to travel from the South West by train with better connections and more capacity.
• Introduced new fast services between Liverpool and the Sydney CBD.
• Introduced 20 express train services per week in peak hour for Campbelltown and Macarthur customers, meaning a train every 6 minutes, or 10 express trains an hour in the busiest periods.
• Added 200 extra services each week on the T8 Airport and South Line to ease congestion and improve safety.

Delivering on the plan (future)

Roads

• The new M5 motorway will provide 9km of twin underground motorway tunnels from Kingsgrove to a new interchange at St Peters. This will double the current capacity for motorists travelling to and from this area. By mid-2020, the new M5 will have linked up existing motorways, provided connections to new, future roads and to the broader road network.

• Construction work is expected to start on stage one of the F6 Extension in 2020, with the new tunnel opening to traffic by 2024. The twin four-kilometre tunnels will connect the new M5 motorway at Arncliffe to President Avenue at Kogarah. When it’s complete, motorists will be able to bypass 23 sets of traffic lights and save up to 15 minutes on their journey. The project will take more than 10,000 vehicles a day off General Holmes Drive and 2000 trucks off local streets. It will also allow people to spend less time sitting in traffic and more time at home with their families.

• Appin Road will be progressively upgraded between Rosemeadow and Appin. The initial work from Rosemeadow and Brian Road, Appin started in April 2018.

Public transport

• By 2024, the train line between Sydenham and Bankstown will be upgraded and converted to a new metro line. All 11 stations will be fully accessible with lifts and level access between platforms and trains. After the conversion, metro trains from Bankstown will run at least every four minutes in the peak, or 15 trains an hour.
• In 2024, the metro train system will run from Sydney’s North West region, under Sydney Harbour, through new underground stations in the CBD and beyond to the South West.
• We started introducing 24 new air conditioned eight car trains to the Sydney Trains network in late 2018. 17 of these new trains are now in service and the entire fleet is expected to be in service around the middle of this year. The new double deck trains will provide you with more comfortable and reliable services.
• We’re investing in technology upgrades and infrastructure improvements to modernise the Sydney Trains network. These improvements will allow for five more trains an hour during the peak on the T4 Illawarra Line from Cronulla, which is an increase of up to 20 per cent in capacity. On the T8 Airport Line there will be more peak hour services at the International, Domestic, Mascot and Green Square stations. This means there will be trains on average every four minutes instead of every six, along with extra services from Revesby and for South Coast customers. The upgrades will increase capacity and reduce crowding and will be delivered in stages over the next 10 years.
