A maintenance blitz removed a staggering 3,416 defects across the network. This only happens with a ‘safety hymn sheet’ known as a Special Train Notice (STN). Head of Head of Planning Heath Mulholland explains: “Balancing the need to run efficient and reliable services for our customers while implementing requests to close off sections of track, has major safety implications. My team assesses each request for track access according to whether there are minimal impacts to our customers and whether safety can be assured for our people.”
