We've already…

Public transport

• Made journeys more reliable, safer and faster by introducing more than 8,600 new weekly train, bus and ferry services and providing you with more choice, frequency and reliability across all modes of transport.
• Added more than 30,000 extra public transport services since 2011, giving you more reliability and choice on how and when you move around.
• Upgraded major CBD stations including Martin Place, St James, Wynyard and Town Hall to make them safer, more accessible and now with better pedestrian links.
• Extended light rail in the Inner West in 2015, with nine new stops between Leichhardt North and Dulwich Hill. Now more than 9 million people a year travel between the CBD and the Inner West.
• Delivered a new Northern Beaches bus network with more than 3,200 additional weekly services, including more than 2,000 new weekly B-Line services to help alleviate congestion on our roads and provide you with an alternative to the car.
• Made ridesharing services like Uber legal and provided policy around operations so the service is responsible, clean and safe for you to use.
• Delivered big improvements in train services for Inner West customers from Burwood to Newtown including:
  • During the morning and afternoon peaks most Inner West stations now have a service every six minutes on average instead of around every 15 minutes.
  • An extension of the T2 Inner West Line to Parramatta on weekdays has created a new direct link to Sydney’s second CBD for the first time and eliminates the need to change trains.
  • Train services for customers at Summer Hill, Lewisham, Petersham and Stanmore have doubled during peak times.
  • Customers from Burwood, Croydon, Ashfield and Newtown now have 2-4 extra trains per hour during peak times meaning customers can just turn up and go.

Roads

• The new widened M4 has made journeys between Parramatta and the CBD faster and smoother enabling people to bypass 28 sets of traffic lights and access the motorway at more points.
• Introduced new technologies to make our road networks safer and more efficient. Intelligent traffic management systems, work together to improve traffic flow.

Delivering on the plan (future)

Roads

• Extending the M4 motorway tunnels between Homebush and Haberfield by mid 2019 to reduce frustrating delays and gridlock that motorists face daily when they come off the M4 and hit a standstill on Parramatta Road.
• Progressively connecting up our motorway system with eight-lane underground tunnels by 2023 to bypass the city, speed up travel times and take heavy vehicles off our local roads.

Public transport

• Completing the new metro rail and light rail systems in stages between 2019-2024 to provide modern ‘turn up and go’ services at new locations every 4 minutes.
• Delivering new trains, new light rail vehicles, new buses and new ferries to make your journeys more reliable and comfortable and give you more choice in the future.
• Beginning work on Circular Quay and Central stations to improve these important transport hubs.
• By 2024, we’ll have extended the metro rail system from Chatswood under Sydney Harbour and on to Bankstown, which will ease congestion on the trains.
• We've started introducing 24 new air conditioned eight car trains to the Sydney Trains network. 17 of these new trains are already in service with the entire fleet expected to be in service around the middle of this year. The new double deck trains will provide you with more comfortable and reliable services.
• Another 17 new Waratah series 2 trains were ordered by the Government in late 2018.
• We’re investing in technology upgrades and infrastructure improvements to modernise the Sydney Trains network. These improvements will allow for five more trains an hour during the peak on the T4 Illawarra Line from Cronulla, which is an increase of up to 20 per cent in capacity. On the T8 Airport Line there will be more peak hour services at the International, Domestic, Mascot and Green Square stations. There will be trains at least on average every four minutes instead of every six, along with extra services from Revesby and for South Coast customers. The upgrades will increase capacity and reduce crowding. They will be delivered in stages over the next 10 years.
• A new light rail route is currently being built from the Sydney CBD to South East Sydney with stops from Circular Quay along George Street to Central Station, through Surry Hills to Moore Park, then to Kensington and Kingsford via Anzac Parade and Randwick via Alison Road and High Street. Track has already been installed along the 12km route and tram testing is underway.
• In the CBD you will have reliable, efficient, frequent ‘turn up and go’ light rail services operating every four minutes in the peak times. Services on the Randwick and Kingsford branch lines will run every eight minutes.
