Summer skincare tips

In our busy work and university lives, we tend to forget about our largest and most sensitive organ – our skin. That’s why we’ve compiled our top five tips to keep your skin glowing this summer:

  • Protect yourself from the sun

As much as we all love the summer sun, it’s not our skin’s best friend. Sun exposure can cause many skin problems like wrinkles and age spots, as well as increase the risk of skin cancer; so we have to lessen the quality time we spend with it! Always remember to use sunscreen, wear protective clothing and seek shade.

  • H2O is the way to go

Water is a must-have to keep our skin healthy and glowing! It maintains our skin’s moisture, replenishes the skin tissue and increases its elasticity, delaying the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Taking a cold water bath in this hot weather not only feels great, but it calms the nerves and reduces stress-related damage to the skin.

Fun fact: taking a five minute cold shower brings benefits of a thermogenic reset – great for your mental health! It can also burn up to an extra 500 calories a day.

  • Be gentle

Don’t let your skin get rough and rugged from all that shaving – be gentle! It’s best to avoid strong soaps, pat your face dry, moisturise and shave carefully.

  • Eat healthy

You would be surprised how much a healthy diet can affect the way you look and feel. Be sure to eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Research suggests that a diet rich in fish oil and low in unhealthy fats and processed or refined carbohydrates may promote younger looking skin.

  • Stress less

Stress can be one of the biggest factors that impact your sensitive skin and trigger acne breakouts. Make sure to get enough sleep, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy work/life balance and enjoy what you do.
