Workplaces roadmap developed and communicated with a focus on Wave 1

Overview

Our Future Workplace program is focused on creating a consistent workplace experience across the cluster, further enabling collaboration, bringing teams together and consolidating our property footprint in line with NSW Government accommodation policy.

Benefits

Over time, we will review all of our office accommodation across NSW, both metropolitan and regional, and look for opportunities to bring our teams together where it makes sense. Our goal is to deliver modern, efficient and agile workspaces that are consistent across whole of Government, support service delivery, encourage collaboration and enable flexibility.

The story

In the past …

Employees across the cluster worked in very different workplaces. The office spaces are often out-dated, with old technology and old fit outs. There are not enough meeting rooms, and there is nowhere private to take a phone call. Teams do not collaborate and there is no mixing of employees between teams.

Then something happened …

In 2020 our first workplace moves take place, more broadly focused on our Sydney CBD and northern Sydney office locations. Teams move into our new hubs in Macquarie Park and Sydney CBD, and sites we are retaining.

As part of the moves, some teams located in retained sites move into new locations to be co-located with their teams and stakeholders.

So now …

Our teams are co-located with their colleagues and stakeholders, working in modern, contemporary and flexible workspaces. There are multiple types of workstations to support people to work in new ways, and different types of meeting and collaboration spaces. The new offices are supported with modern technology that helps people bring their best to work each day.

Communication objectives

  • To deliver communications which explain what is happening, why and when to all affected employees.
  • To clearly communicate the rationale for the change and how our new workplaces and ways of working will help Transport to deliver on its strategy and vision.
  • To support our employees through the change with relevant and timely information.
  • To support our people to be able to adopt new technology and new ways of working and to transition to their new workplace locations.
  • To help employees feel a sense of pride and ownership of their new workplaces.
  • To provide opportunities for feedback and two-way dialogue.

Key message themes

  • Transport is creating a consistent workplace experience across the cluster, further enabling collaboration, bringing teams together and consolidating our property footprint in line with NSW Government accommodation policy.
  • This is part of our strategy to create a culture where employees are valued, inspired and supported, and further enable a workforce that is flexible, agile, innovative and diverse.
  • Over time, we will reviewing all of our office accommodation across NSW, both metropolitan and regional.
