Staff team up to bring bright ideas to life!

During March, we asked for your bright ideas in our second, cluster-wide Future Transport Staff Challenge.

It was all about improving the way we do things around here by identifying the hurdles, hoops and hold-ups slowing down our progress or ability to deliver excellent customer service.

And you delivered in spades!

A total of 274 ideas were submitted across five categories – a fantastic result so thank you to everyone who participated! You left no stone unturned, submitting a whole range of ideas about digitising paper-based systems, streamlining processes, collaborating better and making life that little bit easier for our customers.

So... now what?

Staff from across the cluster are now teaming up to turn these ideas into reality as part of the Innovation Incubator Program, which kicked off on Monday 1 May!

Over the next two months, the top 12 ideas chosen by the Innovation Leader’s Panel, will go through the exciting and challenging design thinking program. Each idea will be ‘incubated’ by a team of staff members who submitted similar ideas in the challenge.

Teams will be put through their paces, workshopping their ideas with subject matter experts and leaders in order to develop a solution or prototype! And then the really exciting bit… teams will get the chance to bid for sponsorship and funding from the Transport Executive to go forward and implement their idea!

Which ideas have been chosen?

The first four ideas to go through the Incubator are all about moving with the times to improve processes to get better outcomes either internally or for customers:

1. E-list - How can we improve the use of talent pool candidates across the cluster?

Idea submitted by - Christina Gonka (TfNSW)

Project team members; Talita Brooks (STA), Rana Roy (TfNSW), Gabi Neagu (Sydney Trains), Harpreet Singh (TfNSW).

2. Hire Plant – How can we improve the RMS Plant Hire process?

Idea submitted by - Peter Owen (RMS)

Project team members;

Christopher Oswald (TfNSW), Christine D’Rozario (TfNSW), Laurena Basutu (TfNSW).

3. Defect Management – How can we improve our ability to report and track maintenance issues?

Idea submitted by - Sean McLaughlin (Sydney Trains)

Project team members; Jonathon Chalker (Sydney Trains), Nicola Chung (TfNSW), MJ Elali (Sydney Trains).

4. Visual Management Cell (VMC) – How can we make various VMC boards visible at all times in a digital environment?

Idea submitted by - Deren Devrimol (Sydney Trains)

Project team members; Deren Devrimol (Sydney Trains), Louise Webeck (TfNSW), Chrystal D’Silva (TfNSW).

This is just the first of three rounds of the Innovation Incubator Program occurring over May and June, so stay tuned for more ideas to be announced soon!
