Opal Card extension for STA operational employees

TfNSW has recently extended the Opal Card component of the Employee Travel Pass entitlements for a further six months following representation from the RTBU.

This means STA operational employees will retain the Employee Opal Card entitlements, which transfer with you to the new operator of your relevant Region, for three and a half years after the transition date for your Region. The Opal Card will be eligible for use on the same services you have access to at the time of transition.

This additional six month period will also accrue towards the Gold Pass, so those with 26.5 years services at transition, will have the opportunity to qualify for the Gold Pass. Once qualified for the Gold Pass at 30 years service, you will retain it for life.

The six month extension only applies to the Employee Opal Card and Gold Pass accrual. Other passes entitlements (e.g. interstate vouchers, all services passes etc.) are valid for three years post transition as previously advised.

After three-and-a-half years, it will be up to the new operator of the Region to decide whether it wishes to make the Employee Opal Cards available to you.
