New Region 9 operator charging ahead with electric buses

Sydney’s east will soon benefit from 136 new zero emissions buses after the NSW Government appointed Transdev John Holland Buses (NSW) Pty Ltd as the new operator of Sydney Metropolitan Bus Contract (Region 9) which includes State Transit’s Port Botany, Randwick and Waverley depots.

Minister for Transport and Roads Rob Stokes said the contract will save NSW taxpayers around $200 million over eight years, while delivering extra, more frequent regular services for customers in the CBD and southeast.

“We have some of the best transport operators in the world running buses on behalf of the NSW Government. Now customers in Sydney’s CBD and southeast will also benefit from the expertise and efficiency Transdev John Holland brings to the table,” Mr Stokes said.

Transdev John Holland will begin operating services in April 2022, with all State Transit bus drivers and maintenance staff offered a two-year job guarantee.
