Already delivered...

• Completing the Bega Bypass, building 3.5km of new road, adding a new roundabout south of the Bega River Bridge and rebuilding the Finucane Lane intersection. The bypass has removed around 500 heavy vehicles a day from Bega’s town centre, reducing travel times and costs for freight operators, and improving safety for locals.
• Replacing the Crookwell Bridge, which now provides one lane in each direction and wider shoulders to make travel safer for both motorists and cyclists. The bridge can now also carry higher mass limit vehicles, improving the capacity of the NSW freight network.

Delivering on the plan

Roads

• In early 2019, we will start construction of the new Batemans Bay Bridge. Once it’s complete, the bridge will improve freight access through the area by allowing larger trucks to travel over the Clyde River, reduce traffic delays at the Kings and Princes Highway intersection in peak periods and reduce everyday delays by removing the current lift span bridge.
• We are working with the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council to build a new 4.6km, which will bypass the Queanbeyan CBD and provide an alternative route to the new southern population growth areas. Once it’s complete in mid-2020, motorists will be able to avoid up to 19 intersections, three sets of traffic lights and will benefit from a 38 per cent travel time saving on the existing route.

Public Transport

• We’re currently trialling coach services to give customers better connections between regional towns and cities. These include trial coach services between Goulburn and Canberra and Goulburn and Sydney. This is to help regional communities connect to work, medical appointments and shops, as well as family and friends in surrounding regional areas.
• The ageing regional rail fleet will be replaced to improve the safety, comfort and reliability for customers who travel from Sydney to many regional centres in NSW, as well as Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane. The new trains will come into service progressively from 2023.
