Pets of Transport - Meet Spike!

When bearded dragon Spike walks into a room, he looks tough.

You even find yourself thinking he might be from the wrong side of town - but after a good laugh and a couple of tasty mealworms, this down-to-earth reptile will quickly change your mind.

As the focus of this week’s Pets of Transport, the prickly partner fills us in on all things reptilian, gives the inside scoop on his human Nicole and reminds us all that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

Pets of Transport: Spike... welcome to Pets of Transport, we’re honoured to have you here. We know you’re a busy guy, so we’ll skip straight to juicy stuff. Now tell us, what does your human Nicole do at Transport?

Spike: Thanks guys, honestly just happy to be here. Nicole’s in the Marketing and Campaigns team at Transport. Recently, she’s been hanging out a lot in regional NSW trying to save people - and my animal friends - from dying on country roads.

POT: It must be tough being a lizard - but we’re keen to get to know the real Spike - the guy behind the prickly exterior. What do you get up to when your human is at work for the day?

S: Lounge around (I am a lizard after all) basking my well-muscled body in the sun while listening to Dragon. I also enjoy engaging in ‘pointed’ conversations with my boxer dog companion, Tiger.

I’m also still a growing boy, and deep down like to think of myself as a bit of a health nut... I don’t mind breaking up my mealworms with a bit of kale every now and again.

POT: Thanks again for your time Spike, we’ve got one more hard-hitting question for you. What’s the strangest or most interesting thing your human does?

S: She loves the natural environment like me, so goes exploring every chance she gets in the great outdoors.

Although, she still hates giving me my live mealworms each morning! It’s also funny to see her scream when I decide to spike up my ‘beard’ for kicks.
