Stay-at-home orders for Newcastle and the Hunter extended

Due cases continuing to rise in the region the Premier has announced a one week extension of the stay-at-home orders for Newcastle and the Hunter. The restrictions are now in place for the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Singleton, Dungog, Muswellbrook and Cessnock Local Government Areas (LGAs) until 12.01am Friday 20 August.

The rules in place for these LGAs are the same that are already in place across Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast. Everyone in these areas must stay at home unless it is for one of the 4 essential reasons;

  • Shopping for food or other essential goods and services
  • Medical care or compassionate needs (including to get a COVID-19 vaccine)
  • Exercise in groups of no more than 2 within your local government area or up to 10km from your home
  • Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.

For our people who live or stay in the Hunter and Upper Hunter Region LGAs please be assured that you can continue to come to work if your work cannot be done from home and you do not need an Authorised Worker letter to do so. Be sure to understand what you can and can’t do under the new rules.

We understand this is a difficult time for you and the local community and remind you that it’s now more important than ever that if you have even the mildest of symptoms you come forward for testing to help find any COVID-19 cases in the area.
