New England North West (incl. Tamworth)

Already delivered...

Roads

  • Delivered stage two of the Moree Bypass which involved building 1.8kms of new road, upgrading the Bullus Drive and Newell Highway intersection, and adding a southern town entry so traffic can bypass Moree. The bypass has removed 1700 heavy vehicles a day from Moree’s town centre, reducing travel times and costs for freight operators and improving safety for locals.
  • Built the Tulladunna Bridge on the Kamilaroi Highway over the Namoi River near Wee Waa. The new bridge provides access for trucks with no height or width restrictions, improved safety for motorists and lower bridge maintenance costs. The new bridge also saves freight operators travelling to ports in eastern NSW up to three hours in travel time, significantly cutting costs for businesses and local farmers.
  • Worked collaboratively with local councils to maintain, repair and upgrade the State Road network in regional areas, like the second stage of the Manilla Road upgrade between Tribe and Jewry streets, North Tamworth.
  • Built a new roundabout at the Marius Street intersection, with Roads and Maritime Services engaging Tamworth Regional Council to deliver the project. This project was completed in June 2018, ahead of schedule, and will improve road safety and traffic congestion for locals.

Delivering on the plan (future)

Roads

  • Providing funding towards plans for a new heavy vehicle bypass at Tenterfield to improve road safety and traffic efficiency. The bypass will improve traffic efficiency for heavy vehicles travelling on the New England Highway as they will no longer need to go through the town centre, making it safer for locals and pedestrians.
