Netflix Recommendations

For those of you who’ve been living under a rock, the entire Harry Potter movie series has finally dropped on Netflix! This childhood classic is ready for you to binge watch on weekends, flex days and best of all, after a long day at work.

Whether you’re relating to young Harry’s wonder and bewilderment after learning he’s a wizard or his frustrations with Umbridge’s tyrannical rule, get ready to immerse yourself into the magical world of Hogwarts. Here are some reasons why you should take the leap and watch the series. Whether it’s your first or tenth time, there’s never been a better moment to get back into the wizarding world.

#1: It’s relaxing (sort of)

While the series starts on a lighter note, the films’ thematic scope evolve just as Harry personally does, and you can see his childhood innocence disappear with each passing school year and appearance of Voldemort. We’re able to marvel in the sparks and bangs of childhood magic, with Harry and his friends candidly sitting in Potions, Herbology and Transfiguration classes before the darker side of the wizarding world emerges.

#2: The soundtrack

Developed by John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hoppe and Alexandre Desplat, the wonderful music score allows you to become completely immersed in the wizarding world. The sounds are rich and complement the thematic scope of the film without overpowering the scene. Some all-time favourites are Hedwig’s Theme and Christmas at Hogwarts. You can use it as study and/or background music – a little magical touch to your work day!

#3: It’s a classic

If you’re appreciating the special effects, cooing over how cute Harry and his friends were in their first year or analysing the layered relationship between Voldemort and his mother, this series has so many perspectives and nuances that it can’t get old.

If these aren’t reason enough for you, you’ll be able to relate to the newer movies being released at the moment – the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series is a great supplement to the wizarding world.

Happy watching!
