    Job title: Assistant Engineer

    Work experience:

I've been around the Transport cluster from 2017 when i joined as a graduate mechatronics engineer. I've since joined Sydney Metro as an assistant engineer where I've spent my time in both the design management and the technical side of the West project, (Westmead to CBD). During the TfNSW Graduate Program, I completed all 4 rotations where for my first rotation I worked with the Sydney Trains Condition Monitoring and Control Systems teams within Operational Technology. The placement was focused around improving track smarts across the network using technology such as Angle of Attack systems, Break and bearing temperature monitoring systems and TrackIQ Noise Monitoring systems as well as helping improve the reliability and testing of the Dupline Control systems. My second placement was again with Sydney Trains with the Sydney Metro Program Delivery team within the Future Network Delivery directorate. Here I assisted in project management for deliverables across the Northwest and City & Southwest metro projects working with internal and external stakeholders on key interface touch points of the Sydney Metro projects with the existing Sydney Trains network. My Third Placement was with Sydney Metro West, where i focused on the design development of stations, tunnels, rolling stock and the alignment for the project whilst we undertook definition design and lastly for my fourth rotation, I joined the Central Station Main Works Team for Sydney Metro who are undertaking 'open heart surgery' to the railway network in Sydney to build a brand new station below the existing Central Station. Here I helped champion the delivery of early and enabling works, built some stairs from Platforms 20/21 and 22/23 to the Olympic tunnel and helped plan out and supervise works during possessions in the railway corridor. During my time as a graduate, I have also been involved in other programs and opportunities available to Talent Participants, such as the Smart Seeds Innovation Competition, the Future Transport Incubator, the Talent Connect mentoring framework, video content generation for internal and external use, the Young Professionals network within Transport and the Indigenous Australian Engineering Summer School Program. I was also recognised as a finalist for the Talent Participant of the Year award for the 2017 Transport Cluster Awards.

What are you looking for in a mentee? What can you offer?

I am looking for a driven individual that is proactive about their career and progression. I can offer a potential mentee some general advice on how to get the most out of their time in the Entry Level Talent Program. I can assist with guidance on any of the competitions, conferences and opportunities I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of and can help new talent participants looking for guidance on how to better transition into a professional workplace.

What do you like to do in your own time? (Hobbies)

My biggest hobby is sleeping. I think everyone should give it a go for at least 8 hours a day! However when its not socially acceptable to sleep, I love the world of cinematography and photography and love to challenge myself to create something new at least once a month. I collect sneakers (and spend most of my paycheck on them) and I love to travel! Nothing like experiencing new cultures and food to really rejuvenate and re-motivate.

I'm happy to be a mentor to any graduate however if you are a HR grad I think I could be of particular help.
