Transport celebrates International Women’s Day around NSW!

International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March and was an opportunity for us to celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of women while calling for greater gender equality.

Over the course of the week Transport celebrated the achievements of our women over a range of different initiatives across NSW.

2018 Transport International Women’s Day event

On Wednesday 7 March 300 staff from across Transport gathered at the Australian Technology Park to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The theme of the event was in line with the official International Women’s Day theme Press for Progress and focused on how we can all motivate one another to think, act and be gender inclusive.

Secretary Rodd Staples was interviewed by Kirsten Watson, Executive Director of People and Culture. Rodd Staples shared his focus and vision for gender equity and diversity for Transport and why he thinks it’s so important. He said "I want to focus more on the experience for women and how can we make them feel more accepted and valued in their roles”.

Guest’s were also inspired by guest speaker Christine Nixon, former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police and the first female police commissioner in Australia, who shared her experiences of breaking down barriers in a male dominated workforce.

Here’s how we celebrated across Transport

Transport for NSW

Transport for NSW hosted a number of divisional events including forums, lunches, morning and afternoon teas and even a woman’s Health Expo.

Sydney Trains

Sydney Trains had 22 events all over NSW, including forums hosted by executives, networking sessions, morning teas and afternoon teas.

Roads and Maritime

Roads and Maritime produced a series of videos of different women sharing their tips for success and a video of Ken Kanofski, Chief Executive talking about what ‘Press for Progress’ means for him and the business. They also held multiple morning tea and informative session across the regions on Thursday morning.

NSW TrainLink

NSW TrainLink held a number of regional morning tea and networking events throughout the week.

Supporting Dress for Success

Over the last two weeks we did a call out for donations of professional clothing for Dress for Success to support women who are entering or returning to the workplace. We received 19 boxes of donations from across Transport. Thank you to everyone helped empower women in NSW to look and feel their best when re-joining the workforce.
