Far West

Delivering on the plan (future)

Roads

  • We’ve improved the conditions of major highways connecting regional centres, like the Cobb and Silver City. Since February 2015, we have delivered a $60m program of work to further seal and upgrade the Cobb and Silver City highways to improve freight access and safety for motorists.
  • Supported local councils by giving them funding to repair and upgrade regional roads like Bugilbone Road between Burren Junction and Pilliga, Acres Billabong at Tilpa, the Euston Prungle access upgrade near Robinvale, and Gundabloui Road north of Collarenebri. By upgrading the Gundabloui Road, we’ve improved access to the local saleyards and cotton gins, leading to cost savings for businesses and making local roads safer.
  • Upgraded the Comstock Street intersections at Eyre and Patton Streets in Broken Hill, a critical route for heavy vehicles moving freight between regional NSW and regional Victoria. This has reduced annual transport operating costs and is helping make roads safer for and more efficient for all motorists.
  • Supporting local councils with funding to upgrade and repair country roads such as the concrete reconstruction of the Eyre/ Comstock and Comstock/ Patton St intersections. The reconstruction will allow heavier freight movements and repair the road seal.
