Creating positive cultural change through Conscious Inclusion
What is conscious inclusion?
We all have biases which impact how we view the world around us, including at work. These biases are neither positive nor negative, but they can cause prejudice for or against one person or group and can impact on our decision making.
Conscious Inclusion sessions help those in core decision-making roles to unpack their biases, question assumptions and begin to develop a genuine, conscious appreciation of diversity in the workplace.
What does this mean for our leaders?
Helping our leaders and people managers to identify their biases and move towards consciously inclusive behaviour supports our three strategic diversity and inclusion priorities: Flexibility, Women in Leadership and Aboriginal Representation.
In December last year, the Transport Executive participated in a half-day Conscious Inclusion session. From March onwards, workshops will be offered to the Top 250 leaders across the cluster.

This video by EY succinctly presents the theory of conscious inclusion (or unconscious bias) and provides three simple steps on how to override your individual biases.
Roads and Maritime has rolled out conscious inclusion training to their senior leadership team. Find out what Ken Kanofski, Chief Executive of Roads and Maritime, had to say about the benefits and outcomes of these workshops.
