Our people get a glimpse of transport innovations in Brisbane

Our four Future Transport competition winners, Sonia Bertram, Elvis Earle, Merhej Elali and Katie Mackenzie travelled to Brisbane last week to attend the Intelligent Transport System Summit. Check out the happy snaps and see what they said about their experience.

They immersed themselves in all things transport, technology and innovation and listened to inspiring speakers from all over the world. Here are some of the insights they shared with us:

Katie Mackenzie - Transport for NSW: “The biggest impact on how people travel in the future will be through personalised on-demand platforms. For example, an app providing all the forms of transport to get you where you want to go in real-time, from ride-sharing cars, taxis, public buses, electric bikes and even helicopters!

Merhej Elali - Sydney Trains: “The best innovation? Autonomous cars, buses & trains that use a variety of techniques such as wireless connection, radar, GPS automation, facial recognition, laser light, etc. to detect their surroundings.”

Sonia Bertram - NSW TrainLink: “The Rail Active Crossings Safety System uses technology such as solar power, WIFI and remote surveillance to make level crossings safer. A solution that might be worth looking into for level crossings in rural Australia!”

Elvis Earle - Roads and Maritime: “Autonomous vehicles sharing the road in urban environments are still many years away, however they will have the biggest impact in reducing the cost of getting people and services from a transportation hub to their final destination”.

They had a fantastic time and took back home great memories as a team, as well as the will to embrace new technology and change!
“Not only did I meet 3 wonderful people from the Transport cluster, but I was privileged to rub shoulders with individuals whom I would never have had the opportunity to meet. The more we learn about intelligent transport systems and make ourselves familiar with new technology, the better equipped we will be to assist our customers and perform in our daily dutiessaid Sonia.
