Roads

• Major upgrades to the Pacific Highway have made it easier and safer for you to get where you need to go, cut journey times and provided more travel options.
• Road safety is critical in the growing Central Coast region so in the past few years, we’ve introduced 29 flashing lights at 17 schools, as well as funding four school crossing supervisors and part-funding a Road Safety Officer. This is helping to reduce fatalities and injuries in local communities.
• The following road upgrades have delivered a range of benefits including increased capacity, improved safety and reduced congestion on the Central Coast area:
  • Completed stage two of the Central Coast Highway upgrade between Matcham Road, Erina Heights and Ocean View Drive, Wamberal in December 2013 at a cost of $98 million.
  • Completed the Terrigal Drive intersection with Jessie Hurley Drive in May 2014.
  • Completed the $22 million upgrade of Sparks Road between Virginia and Minnesota Roads at Woongarrah in February 2015.
  • Completed the $165 million upgrade of the intersection at Central Coast Highway, Brisbane Water Drive and Manns Road at West Gosford in late 2015, ahead of schedule.
  • Work was completed on the $25 million upgrade of Terrigal Drive at the Charles Kay Drive and Brunswick Road intersections in 2016.
  • The major upgrade of the intersection of Wyong Road at Enterprise Drive and Chittaway Road was completed in October 2016.
  • Wyong Road intersection upgrades are at Mingara Drive and Tumbi Road opened to traffic in December 2017 at a cost of $35 million.
  • Construction was completed on the $84 million Pacific Highway and Wyong Road intersection upgrade at Tuggerah in November 2017.
    
    

Public transport

• In 2013, we added 105 extra weekly services between Sydney and Newcastle, via the Central Coast, including 70 new express services per week on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.
• Since they were introduced, the number of quiet carriages has doubled on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.
• We’re trialling a new fast service running between the new Newcastle Interchange and Central Station. If you travel by train between Newcastle and Sydney you could save more than three hours a week, or more than 35 minutes each day. (Soon to be announced as permanent)

Roads

• By the end of 2020, upgrades to the M1 Pacific Highway between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges will be completed, providing motorists with improved traffic conditions and a safer road. The 12km upgrade involves widening the motorway to provide three lanes in each direction and rebuilding the road to provide a safer surface. Further M1 Motorway upgrades between Kariong and Somersby to add an extra lane in each direction will also be completed.
• We are also upgrading the M1 Pacific Highway between Ourimbah Street at Lisarow and Glen Road at Ourimbah. The upgrade involves widening the highway to provide two lanes in each direction to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians and is expected to be complete in 2018.
• Work will then start to upgrade the Pacific Highway between Parsons Road and Ourimbah Street, Lisarow. This work is expected to start in early 2019 and will result in improved safety and journey times for motorists.
• Planning is also continuing to upgrade the Pacific Highway and Manns Road between Parsons Road, Lisarow and Narara Creek Road at Narara to ease congestion and improve safety and travel times.
• Early work is about to start to upgrade the Empire Bay Drive and Scenic Road intersection to improve journey times for motorists. The existing roundabout and approaches will be widened to two lanes in each direction.
  
  

Public transport

• We have a new intercity train fleet coming from 2019, providing a safer, more comfortable journey for you when travelling from Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the South Coast. The new trains are more accessible, have wider seats with arm rests, charging stations, digital signage, CCTV and air conditioning.
• We're building a new purpose-built train maintenance facility at Kangy Angy on the Central Coast. The new facility will create jobs for local people including traineeships and apprenticeships.
