Celebrating National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a chance for us to celebrate and build on respectful relationships between Aboriginal people and other Australians. The year is particularly significant as it’s 50 years since the 1967 referendum that recognised the rights of Aboriginal people and 25 years since the historic Mabo decision.

Staff from across the cluster heard from Senior Partnership Officer, Angela Webb, as she spoke about her mentee journey shadowing Secretary Tim Reardon for a week.

Keynote speaker John Moriarty AM shared his inspiring story, from being part of the stolen generation to becoming an active member in the fight for Aboriginal rights. He also co-designed the Aboriginal flag!

The latest cohort of mentors and mentees from the Aboriginal Career Development and Mentoring Program graduated – enjoying the opportunity to come together and celebrate.

And finishing off the day were the children of Wunanbiri Aboriginal Preschool, who showcased some of their favourite songs, including some in Aboriginal language, and invited some leaders, including Tim Reardon and Howard Collins, to sing and dance on stage with them!
