Buzzing with Leanne Wilson

When did you join Transport and what’s your job?

I started with the Department of Main Roads in Castlereagh Street Sydney on the 18 December 1978. I have had a number of roles in the business over my time here but I currently work as a Government Information Services Officer, servicing the Pacific Highway Office for all Ministerial and Briefing correspondence.

Tell us about your career journey?

When I started with the Department of Main Roads I initially worked in Legal Services before moving to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Toll Office in 1979 where I worked as Assistant to the Manager.

After a few years in Sydney, I transferred to one of the Regional Offices and was offered a position in Grafton as a Stenographer, reporting to a number of Divisional Engineering Managers who were responsible for major projects within the Northern Region.

What are you proud of in your job?

I am tremendously proud of having worked for such a great organisation, particularly in the Pacific Highway Office where I am still involved. The 155 kilometre Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade, the final stretch of the pacific Highway upgrade will be open by 2020. What a great achievement this is, and I have been fortunate to be a part of this upgrade from beginning to end.

What’s the best thing about working in Transport?

While working on the Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade I have worked with a tremendous team who have always had the best of intentions at heart of seeing this fantastic highway completed to dual carriageway.

What are you passionate about?

I love travelling and I hope I can continue to travel outside Australia, meet new people, discover new places and travel new highways around the world.
