Staff come together for regional roadshow to have their say on Future Transport

What will transport look like in your local area in the next 20-40 years? That was the question put to local staff in Dubbo and Grafton last week as part of the Future Transport regional roadshow.

The Future Transport team have been busy getting out and listening to our customers, communities and staff across regional and rural NSW to get their input into the development of our new Future Transport Strategy.

Staff from TfNSW, RMS and NSW TrainLink were invited to have their say on the future challenges and opportunities in Dubbo and Grafton - everything from the infrastructure we need, through to the vehicles of the future, including driverless technology and on-demand services.

Rob Mason, Executive Advisor, TfNSW, spoke to around 50 staff at the regional office in Grafton about local needs into the future.

Nigel Dawe, Area Customer Service Manager, NSW TrainLink attended the Grafton event and said he enjoyed meeting staff from other agencies and hearing their feedback.

“We collectively need to be thinking about Future Transport and asking the questions which will hopefully evolve into solutions and best practices that we can adopt. It’s important that we stay relevant and reliable as well as receptive to what new technologies become available. This will help us to deliver better services across the board going forward,” said Nigel.

Kate Wickett, Project Director, Future Transport addressed the staff group in Dubbo, leading a discussion around local transport opportunities.

Josh Parkin, Leader Regional Planning & Analysis, RMS was in attendance.

“It was a great for everyone to come together and talk about the opportunities that Future Transport provides, particularly in the local area. Talk of driverless vehicles is fantastic but also discussed some great opportunities for local transport issues to be resolved in the shorter term,” Josh said.

Pete Allaway, Chief Operating Officer, NSW TrainLink also took part in the roadshow in Wauchope where he met some of the residents.

“At Wauchope, we heard about the big trends changing transport and particularly for that area, such as a growing and ageing population. It was lovely to meet some of the volunteers at the Wauchope Neighbourhood Centre and get to know more about the local transport needs.”
