Milestone Moments – Great Western Highway safety upgrade opens

Motorists are now enjoying a smoother and safer journey between the Blue Mountains and Lithgow with upgrades now complete on the Great Western Highway between Hartley Valley and Forty Bends.

The project was part of the Australian and NSW governments $250 million Great Western Highway upgrade and will provide road users with a better travel experience while improving safety and boosting efficiency.

Well done to the crews who carried out this critical piece of work, shifting more than 500,000 tonnes of soil, installing more than 5.7 kilometres of wire rope safety barriers and using around 10,000 litres of paint to complete line marking along the upgrade.
