Internal Transport and Industry Networks

Technology

  • The Transport Women in Technology Committee - speak to Constance Iannelli for more information
  • SheStarts is a ground-breaking innovation program for ambitious female entrepreneurs with big ideas for high-impact businesses.
  • Womenwill aims to erase gender gaps by connecting women to the online world and giving them the tools to make the most of it. They develop and support programs for women across the digital literacy spectrum, from training Internet Saathis in India to help women in rural villages get online, to Happy Back to Work in Japan, and their partnerships with groups like UN Women, Word Pulse and the Global Fund for Women.

Planning

  • Women’s Planning Network (Planning Institute Australia) formed as a not-for-profit organisation in 1994 to promote the role and interests of women in the planning and development industry. In the 21 years since then we have delivered research, programs, events and support to benefit women involved in planning and allied professions.

Engineering

  • Join the the Transport Women in STEMC Employment (WiSE) Network to improve gender equality, inclusive culture and representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Construction roles
  • Women in Engineering (Engineers Australia) welcomes female engineers who are interested in advancing engineering and increasing the amount of women in their fields. Their vision is that engineering becomes an inclusive profession which values, supports and celebrates the contributions of women in the engineering team.” Includes scholarships and awards.

Economics

Women in Economics Network (Economic Society of Australia)was formed to promote and support the careers of female economists in Australia. The objectives are to:

  • Professionally connect and support the career development of women in economics
  • Increase the representation of women at all levels of the economics profession
  • Promote public contributions by female economists.

Membership of the Economics Society and the WEN is open to anyone with an interest in economics including economists and other professionals in academia, government, business and teaching. The WEN has a number of activities planned for the next few years. These include:

  • Regular events – seminars on economic issues featuring female speakers as well as professional development and networking events
  • An annual women in economics retreat for junior and mid-career women
  • A mentoring program – where junior women are matched with senior women in their sector
  • A media and public speaking register – designed to provide media outlets and conference organisers with a list of qualified women when they are looking for economists
  • Advocating for women in economics – using our website, newsletter, social media and special sessions at the Australian Conference of Economists to promote the careers and research of female economists
  • A pipeline program – initiatives to promote economics as a career to female students at school and universities.
