Transport ‘on demand’ in regional NSW

In the same way Netflix has revolutionised the way we watch TV, is on demand transport set to change the way we travel in regional NSW?

Flexible transport, also known as on demand transport, is all about putting customised transport at our customers’ finger tips. Think about services like community transport, taxis, rideshare and carpooling and being able to conveniently book anytime from your smartphone.

It’s any transport service that doesn't run to a fixed route or timetable and is one of the transport solutions we are looking at for regional and rural NSW.

The benefits are many – it could help better connect customers with public transport services like the distance between home and the train station.

It could also play a vital service for older people and our customers with limited mobility who need a door-to-door service. And then there’s a further role it could play where no public transport options are available or running less frequently, such as getting home from a late night out or getting out and about on weekends. It’s all about providing flexibility and more options.

So, we want to know what role you think flexible transport could play in regional and rural areas in the future?

You might live and work in a regional area or be a city dweller who visits once in a while. Either way we want to hear from you!

We have our subject matter experts, Kate Golotta, Principal Manager Regional Strategy and Julie Gee, Principal Transport Planner Regional Strategy on hand to answer your questions.

Whether it’s a comment or question, ask it here and they’ll get back to you.
