Our customers are one step closer to travelling on the new air-conditioned Waratah Series 2 trains, with the first of 24 new trains entering final testing.
Testing is being carried out on the electronic information systems like internal and external CCTV to make sure everything is operational and reliable before our first customers hop on board.
It won’t be long now until the trains begin carrying customers, starting with areas where older trains are currently running.
The full fleet is expected to be in service by early 2019 with priority to be given to the T2 Inner West and Leppington, T3 Bankstown and T8 Airport and South Lines.
But wait, there’s more!
Sydney’s new metro train has just passed a historic test by crossing the Skytrain - the new landmark railway bridge over Windsor Road at Rouse Hill – for the first time.
Trains will initially be tested at 60km/h on the Skytrain before they are tested at up to 100km/h.
And then, after some more testing through the new twin 15km tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping, the full-automated metro trains will be ready for action in the first half of next year when metro takes its first passengers in the north-west.
