Thanks to new intelligent transport systems being put to the test on the M4 from Wednesday next week, customers can expect a more fluid travel experience between Marys Hill and Penrith, including less stop-start traffic and easier merging.
The testing will measure driver behaviour and reactions to the technology ahead of the project opening to traffic in 2020. When it does, the smart technology will automatically accommodate for incidents on the road and make adjustments to improve traffic flow.
Keep an eye out electronic message and lane use signs pop up as more enhancements are assimilated into the M4 Smart Motorway.
