Rail Safety Week is an annual initiative held in Australia and New Zealand to raise awareness on the importance of being safe around trains, freight and light rail. The event was organised by Sydney Trains and NSW Trains in collaboration with TrackSAFE, an organisation formed by the Australian rail industry targeting the reduction of preventable injuries and incidents on the network.
For Sydney Trains staff, safety sessions were held across nine workplaces around the network which discussed the meaning of safety and the current actions that are being taken improve it.
For everyday travellers, fun pop-up events occurred across the network. Central Station hosted a variety of events including: steam train rides, a virtual reality experience, and a visit from Thomas the Tank Engine.
