The Need for Change

Problem Statement

The current state of investment in rail infrastructure will increase the number of inexperienced personnel given the opportunity to become a PO. Further, the safety competency of current POs is inconsistent across the cohort.

Benefits

The PO competency reform initiative will address this by improving the competency and capability of POs. This will have positive impacts on all work related to the rail corridor. Further, increased robustness in the competency assessment will underpin a greater level of consistency in the safety performance of all POs.

Changes to the Training

Currently, PO training is organised into four stages. PowerPoint slides are used in a classroom environment, while assessment is paper-based, requiring the candidate to have a working memory.

The new course cultivates competency.
