We’ve reached an exciting milestone in Australia’s largest road infrastructure project – WestConnex – with the opening of the new M4 tunnels. This $3.8 billion investment will allow motorists in Western Sydney to travel on the M4 from Penrith to the Inner West of Sydney without a single traffic light. It will also take thousands of trucks off local roads – a massive win for local communities!
WestConnex is not only completing missing links in our motorways network, it’s a key component of our Future Transport strategy that will create a western bypass of Sydney’s CBD and enable the transition to a metropolis of three connected cities.
Watch this video featuring Camilla Drover, Executive Director Motorways and Peter Regan, Deputy Secretary Infrastructure and Place talking about how the new tunnels will make journeys faster, easier and safer for motorists.
A huge amount of work has gone into this city-shaping project, and I’d like to congratulate everyone who has been involved in it, especially in the Motorways team. The benefits for motorists, freight operators and local communities from this project are enormous, and there’s even more to come as further stages of WestConnex are delivered.
