Message from the Secretary of DPC Tim Reardon

Resilience NSW

6 April 2020

Today the NSW Premier announced the creation of a new NSW Government Executive Agency, Resilience NSW.Led by Shane Fitzsimmons as its Commissioner, Resilience NSW will drive world-leading disaster preparedness and recovery for the NSW community.

As Commissioner, Shane will bring together for the first time ever our preparedness, prevention and recovery efforts across floods, storms, pandemics, bushfires, cyber, and national arrangements.

The past six months have shown that more than ever, a whole of government approach is critical to help the NSW community recover from difficult circumstances as quickly as possible, and it is fantastic to have someone with such significant operational and leadership experience to drive our future responses to disasters and state-significant incidents. It will also be important to take the lessons from the challenges our state has experienced and improve our preparedness going forward.

Shane will transition into the new role over the next month and will also take up a role as a Deputy Secretary within Premier & Cabinet so he can drive necessary change, quickly.
