Thursday 6 August 2020 - Evolving Transport News

Welcome to Evolving Transport News, your guide to what is happening in the world of Evolving Transport. In every edition you will hear news and key updates from across the 13 workstreams that make up our program of transformation.

Where we are up to on the corporate functions proposal

We’d like to thank everyone who participated and shared feedback on the proposal to include corporate functions from Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink in Evolving Transport.

You may have heard from Rodd in last week’s livestream that consultation closed on Wednesday 15 July, and that we received over 700 pieces of feedback to work through. A final decision on this proposal was due at the end of July, but due to the volume of responses received we needed more time to comprehensively review and carefully consider all your feedback.

Thank you for your patience and we plan to share an update next week.

Branch design progress and consultation from Tuesday 11 August

We have 25 of the 40 branches well on their way through the phases of their branch organisational design. The remaining 15 branches will also start their design work this month.

Branches will go to formal consultation with employees on proposed structure designs progressively from August. The first branch going through consultation on Tuesday 11 August will be CST Freight. Please keep an eye and ear out from your leaders about updates for your branch.

How will branch design work in the virtual space

Due to the impact of Coronavirus and the continued advice to work from home where possible much of our design work is happening online. This means co-design will feel and look a little different than before.

Co-design isn’t about inviting everyone to a workshop, but providing opportunities for different voices to be heard and shape our thinking – whether they’re with leaders, clients, stakeholders, customers, or employee groups. We are using virtual tools to help run activities and engage with you such as online surveys and polls, online workshops and discussion forums, Teams meetings, and on our intranet.

Some examples of how we are doing this include:

  • CST Transport Planning are holding weekly Teams drop-in sessions run by two members of their leadership where teams can ask questions in an informal setting. The themes from each session are shared through their branch emails.
  • SER Insights and Engagement are using an interactive, online polling tool during branch meetings allowing team members to ask questions and share concerns as they share ideas.
  • GS Planning and Programs are hosting Teams small focus group sessions to discuss current and future-state opportunities and challenges, and also capturing anonymous feedback through their online form.
