Join the Transport team and donate blood!
National Blood Donor Week is just around the corner from Sunday 2 September to Saturday 8 September 2018, and TfNSW is taking the lead on supporting the Red25 cause.
Red25 is an Australian Red Cross initiative that aims to engage with organisations, community groups and universities to secure 25% of blood needed in Australia.
As of August 2018, TfNSW has donated 201 times and saved 603 lives!
Aussies generously gave over a million donations last year, but donated blood only lasts 42 days. Join the legends of Australia.
Are you thinking of becoming a first time donor? We talked to recurring donors and Talent Participants Bianca and Bronte about their experiences.
When donating for the first time, Bianca and Bronte were quite nervous because they didn’t know what to expect. But after filling out paperwork to confirm their health and eligibility to donate, the friendly nurses explained why it was such a worthy cause.
Donating blood itself only takes 10-15 minutes.
Afterwards, donators are usually treated to a selection of cookies, crackers, fruit, water and juice, and even possibly their famous fresh shakes!
As part of our leave policy, Transport employees are entitled to take paid time off work with their manager’s approval.
“Donating blood is such a precious thing to do” said Bianca.
One blood donation can save up to 3 lives. When you can do something so easy to save someone’s life, why wouldn’t you?
