Wynyard wins a National Trust Award

A sculpture re-using the old wooden escalators at the York Street exit of Wynyard Station has won a National Trust Heritage Award!

Interloop, the large hovering sculpture using the old escalator treads, took out the top prize for the Education and Interpretation Category beating hundreds of other entrants. The sculpture also won the Judges' Choice award.

Sydney Trains, together with TfNSW, was also shortlisted for the Heritage Resources and Publications Category for Escalation Sensation – a project to chronicle the history of the escalators with a documentary and booklet.

It was a successful day for Transport with Sydney Trains also winning the award for continuing tradition for their refresh of the interior waiting rooms at Kiama and Bulli Railways Stations.

The National Trust Heritage Awards are now in their 24th year of recognising heritage projects and they aim to protect and promote unique heritage.

Congratulations to the Wynyard Station Upgrade Project Team!
