Such an important initiative. I recently started driving on country roads a lot more and am not surprised at the stats around lives lost in regional areas - unsafe overtaking/speeding is an almost daily occurrence, as is driving too close to the car ahead at high speeds. In recent years, I read a piece in one of the Sunday papers about injuries and fatalities on our roads - no doubt the work of the Centre for Road Safety. The key takeaway for me was about how long it takes to come to a stop when travelling at 100km/hr...and that if you hit a tree at 100km/hr, there's very little hope for you. It's changed how I drive. I think few people realise or think about what would happen (to them and the cars in front or behind them) if they needed to stop suddenly at speed or if they hit something. So pleased we're continuing to spread these life-saving messages - they can make a difference!
