2019, a big year ahead

Welcome back, I hope you had a relaxing break with family and friends. To those who worked over the holidays, a big thank you and please make sure you take the opportunity to have a break soon.

With 2019 now well underway, I’d like to update you on some priorities and things to be aware of for the year ahead.

1. Our people. You’ve all heard of putting the customer at the centre of everything we do. That’s not going away but this year, a key focus for me will be putting our people at the heart. It’s all about initiatives and changes that put you first and support you to be the best you can be at work.

It’s also about fixing the things that matter most to you – such as providing you with better technology and systems – so you can concentrate on your real job of providing excellent services for our customers. You’ll see lots happening to improve things for you this year.

2. A year of delivery. 2019 is massive for us. The work we’ve been doing for years is coming to fruition, and that’s great news for customers who really will start to feel the benefits. We’re opening Sydney Metro, Newcastle Light Rail and the new M4 tunnels – see the latest pics and videos.

And 11 of 24 brand new Waratah Series 2 trains are in service, with the rest coming soon. By mid 2019, 100 per cent of the Sydney Trains fleet will be air conditioned – another huge win for customers.

3. Technology and innovation. Our focus on this will only get stronger – it’s a really important part of delivering our Future Transport vision for NSW. We’re doing lots and you can find out more through MOVE, our new six part online TV series.

4. NSW State election. Caretaker mode begins Friday 1 March 2019. For most of us, our day-to-day work doesn’t change, but there are a few key things you should be aware of, so please make sure you understand your obligations.

5. I’ll be out and about. Personally, I can’t wait to meet more of you. It’s my favourite part of the job and I’m looking forward to hearing about your challenges and ideas for making things better.

Check out my photos on LeaderBuzz from my visits across the Transport cluster.

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, take some time to read our latest e-mag Transport Mode. It features some of your fantastic work, and you should be proud of your contribution to projects and services that are making a difference to people’s lives across every corner of the state. That’s worth remembering and reflecting on as we set out on another big year ahead.
